What happened from Ironclads being made
The Confederates were the Southern states of the U.S in rebellion. They were losing a lot of battles so at Noon March 8, 1862 men completed the final touches to Merrimac construction. Their new warship - a steam powered ship - was the Merrimac warship. There was a Union blockade a few miles away, causing a big battle called Hampton Roads. It was a windless day and the Merrimac had thirty-gun frigate. Cannon balls would just bounced of the sloped walls.
